What to do when your mind is tired from too much noise...

20 Notes to Self you should read daily until they truly sink in (Link at the end)

Read time: 5 minutes

🌞Hey’all - Good morning!

You sit down to relax.
And within a few minutes, you check your phone.

One message.
One reel.
One notification.
One headline.
One email.

Then you switch to another app.
Then another.

Nothing particularly stressful happened.
Yet somehow, your mind feels full.

This is one of the strange problems of modern life.

We're surrounded by information all day.
And even when we're resting, our attention rarely gets to rest.

The problem isn't always that you need more time.
Sometimes you need less mental noise.

Spiritual Reminder

Your mind is receiving far more information than it was designed to process continuously.

So if you sometimes feel distracted, restless, mentally tired, or unable to enjoy a quiet moment, don't immediately assume something is wrong with you.

Perhaps you've simply been mentally consuming without mentally recovering.
Rest isn't only sleeping.

Rest can also mean:
Nothing to watch.
Nothing to answer.
Nothing to compare.
Nothing to consume.

Just being where you are.

Today’s Ritual

The "Attention reset" Technique

Try this when your mind feels scattered.
For just 15 minutes, remove three things:

No scrolling.
No background video.
No switching between tasks.

Then choose one quiet activity:
Make tea.
Water your plants.
Sit on the balcony.
Take a slow walk.
Fold clothes.
Look outside.
Do absolutely nothing.

The important part isn't the activity.
It's giving your brain something it rarely gets: one thing at a time.

3 Techniques

The "Notification diet"

You don't need to turn off your entire phone.
Start with the notifications that constantly interrupt you.

Ask:
"Does this need my attention immediately?"

If not, turn it off.

Keep notifications for things that genuinely require timely attention.
Everything else can wait until you choose to check it.

Your phone shouldn't decide when your attention is available.

The "One screen" Rule

When you're watching something, watch it.
When you're eating, eat.
When you're talking to someone, talk.
When you're working, work.

Try not to combine every activity with another screen.

For one meal today:
No phone beside you.

For one conversation:
No checking notifications.

For one task:
No background scrolling.

You're not trying to become perfectly disciplined.

You're simply reminding your brain:
"We don't have to consume everything at once."

● The "Mental download"

Before going to bed or starting an important task, take a piece of paper.

Write down everything currently occupying your mind:
Messages to answer.
Things to buy.
Things to remember.
Ideas.
Worries.
Tasks.
Random thoughts.
Don't organize them.
Just empty them out.
Your brain is designed to think.

It doesn't need to double as your storage system.

Once it's on paper, tell yourself:
"I don't have to remember this right now."

Today's Motivation

Q.U.I.E.T. Reset

When your mind feels overloaded:

Q: Quit unnecessary stimulation
U: Unplug for a few minutes
I: Identify what truly needs attention
E: Engage with one thing
T: Take your attention back

You don't need to escape modern life.
You need to occasionally step out of its constant stream.

Affirmation for the Day

"I don't have to respond to everything that asks for my attention.
I choose where my attention goes, and I allow my mind to rest."

Today's 15-Minute Challenge

Put your phone on silent.
Keep it out of reach.
Set a timer for 15 minutes.

For those 15 minutes:
Don't scroll.
Don't check messages.
Don't consume content.
Don't multitask.

Simply do one ordinary thing slowly.
When the timer ends, notice how your mind feels.

You may discover something surprising:
You weren't lacking time.
You were lacking quiet.

And remember:
You don't have to disconnect from the world.
You just need to reconnect with yourself occasionally.
