Follow R.I.S.E. when one setback makes you doubt yourself...

Why negative thoughts come after happy moments and how to stop them? (Link at the end)

Read time: 5 minutes

🌞Hey’all - Good morning!

You worked hard for something, but it didn't go as planned.

Perhaps you failed an exam, lost an opportunity, made a mistake at work, or received feedback that hurt more than you expected.

Now, even the things you once felt confident doing seem difficult. You hesitate before trying again. You question your abilities. And a single setback starts to feel like evidence that you're not good enough.

But one disappointing outcome is an experience you've had, not a definition of who you are.

Spiritual Reminder

Stop treating a setback as a verdict on your abilities. Use it as a starting point for rebuilding trust in yourself.

You don't rebuild confidence by proving you were never wrong. You rebuild it by discovering that you can move forward after being wrong.

Today’s Ritual

🧘 The R.I.S.E. Method

When your confidence takes a hit, use these four steps to begin again.

R ~ Recognize what happened:

Describe the setback factually, without turning it into a judgment about yourself. Instead of “I'm terrible at this,” try “My presentation didn't go as well as I wanted.”

I ~ Identify what you can learn:

Ask yourself: What worked? What didn't? What could I do differently next time?
Look for one useful lesson rather than trying to find fault with everything you did.

S ~ Start with a manageable step:

Choose one small action that brings you closer to the thing you're hesitant to try again. Practice one presentation section, revise one part of your application, or ask for feedback on one specific skill.

E ~ Evidence your progress:

At the end of the day, record one action you took despite feeling uncertain. Confidence becomes easier to rebuild when you begin collecting evidence that you can learn, adapt, and keep going.

Mindful Insight

We often wait to feel confident before trying again.

But confidence doesn't always arrive first. Sometimes, it grows after we take action while still feeling unsure.

You don't need to prove that you will never fail again. You need to give yourself opportunities to experience progress again.

The goal isn't to return as someone who never makes mistakes. It's to become someone who knows how to recover from them.

Affirmation for the Day

“One setback does not define my abilities. I can learn from what happened, take the next step, and rebuild confidence through action.”

Today's Challenge

Think of one setback that has made you doubt yourself.

Write down:

  • One fact about what happened.

  • One lesson you can take from it.

  • One small step you can take next.

Then complete that step, even if you don't feel completely ready.
